The European Union has opened a historic opportunity for industries that want to replace their gas or oil-fired boilers with clean electric solutions.

Through the new Innovation Fund – Heat Auction 2025 program, the European Commission will allocate €1 billion in direct grants for projects that electrify process heat and reduce CO₂ emissions in industry.

A Europe without fossil heat: the goal of Heat Auction 2025

Process heat accounts for 47 % of industrial energy consumption and 75 % of its direct CO₂ emissions.

Most of this heat still comes from natural gas or oil-fired boilers, even though mature and cost-effective technologies are already available to fully electrify the generation of steam or industrial hot water.

With the Heat Auction 2025 program, the European Commission seeks to accelerate this transition by supporting projects that install:

  • Electric boilers for steam or hot water.
  • Resistance or induction heating systems.
  • Industrial heat pumps.
  • Hybrid solutions with solar thermal or geothermal.

The mechanism is simple but powerful: the project receives a fixed premium for 5 years for each ton of CO₂ avoided.

What exactly is funded in the European 2025 opportunity?

ConceptDescription
Type of assistanceDirect subsidy (grant) – premium per ton of CO₂ avoided.
Duration of aidUp to 5 years of semi-annual payments
Eligible technologiesElectric boilers, resistance, induction, heat pump, solar thermal, geothermal
Temperatures covered100-400 °C (medium T°) and >400 °C (high T°)
Minimum eligible power≥ 3 MWth (modular projects are allowed).
BeneficiariesEU/EEA industries currently operating with gas, fuel oil or coal

The GICONMES HGV range: clean steam, maximum efficiency, zero emissions

The GICONMES HGV range is specifically designed for industrial applications requiring saturated or superheated steam between 100 and 400 °C, with an efficiency of over 95% and full compatibility with renewable electrical energy.

ParameterGICONMES HGV
Thermal powerUp to 3 MWth with single boiler (modular 9 MW → 3 × 3 MW)
Steam production4,500-4,800 kg/h
Design pressure6-12 bar
Efficiency> 95 %
ControlSiemens PLC / Modbus / SCADA ready
ConstructionAISI 304/316L, ADCA/Spirax valves, PED compliant
InstrumentationISO 50001 / EMAS for performance measurement and CO₂.

These boilers offer instant start-up, precise modulation, zero direct emissions and minimal maintenance, making them the ideal choice for industries looking to decarbonize without losing productivity.

Sectors where an HGV makes a difference

Case study: GICONMES 900 kW electric boiler

An industrial plant replacing a gas boiler (0.9 MW) with a GICONMES HGV electric boiler fueled by renewable electricity can avoid up to 630 tons of CO₂ per year:

ParameterValue
Thermal power900 kW
Hours of operation3,120 h/year
Annual thermal energy2,808 MWhₜₕ.
CO₂ avoided630 t/year (3,150 t in 5 years)

Examples of grant potential:

ScenarioPremium (€/tCO₂)Total subsidy (5 years)
Conservative100 €/tCO₂.≈ 315.000 €
Intermediate150 €/tCO₂.≈ 472.500 €
Ambitious200 €/tCO₂.≈ 630.000 €

For a typical investment of 250,000-300,000 euros, the subsidy can cover 50-100% of the cost.

How GICONMES accompanies the industry in this transition

From GICONMES we accompany the industry in this transition, including:

  • Energy diagnosis and calculation of CO₂ avoided.
  • Preparation of CE/PED and ISO 50001 technical documentation.
  • Assistance in the bid for the Innovation Fund Heat Auction 2025.
  • Turnkey design, installation and commissioning.
  • Post-installation support and MRV (Monitoring, Reporting & Verification) reporting.

Towards climate neutrality

With the GICONMES HGV range, industries can eliminate their direct CO₂ emissions, reduce their dependence on gas and position themselves at the forefront of the European energy transition.

In addition, these projects can be combined with other national subsidies, such asPERTE for Industrial Decarbonization or CDTI/FEDER programs, maximizing profitability and reducing payback periods. Contact us and we will help you to design the optimal solution for your installation.
